RadioAlabama Sports brings you Friday night action from Sylacauga, Childersburg, B.B. Comer, Fayetteville and Lincoln. Take a look at where each team is playing this week and where you can listen to the game.
Sylacauga (4-0, 2-0) at Mortimer Jordan (2-2, 1-1)
Sylacauga is looking for its first win against Mortimer Jordan since 1964, a 6-0 victory for the Aggies. The two teams have only met once since 1964, which was last year’s meeting, a 12-7 win for Mortimer Jordan. The Aggie offense has scored more than 30 points for each of the previous three weeks, bringing their season average to 33 points per game. Mortimer Jordan’s defense has been inconsistent at times, but it has been mostly solid, allowing 21 per game. This is the first major region test for Sylacauga, and, if the Aggies pass it, they put themselves in contention for the region championship.
Childersburg (2-2, 0-2) at Handley (2-1, 1-0)
On-Air: KiX 100.3
Childersburg is trying to get back to winning ways, coming off two-straight losses. At 0-2, the Tigers are needing a region win to stay in the mix. Childersburg’s defense has allowed more than 20 points per game for the last three weeks, and the task doesn’t get easier as they face a Handley offense that is scoring 34.3 points per game. Handley dropped 62 points on Booker T. Washington last week. Childersburg beat Handley 42-26 last year, but Handley leads the all-time series 9-8.
B.B. Comer (1-2, 1-1) vs. Randolph County (2-1, 1-1)
B.B. Comer got its first win of the season with a 40-0 victory over Glencoe last week. The challenge gets a lot tougher as they face a top-10 opponent in Randolph County, who lost to Piedmont a week ago. The Randolph County defense is allowing 11.3 points per game against opposing offenses. B.B. Comer has solidly put up 31.3 points per game. If B.B. Comer wants to be a major player in the region, it needs this win this week.
Fayetteville (3-1, 1-1) has a bye week.
Fayetteville had a crazy game against Central Coosa last week, winning 75-36. It was the first time all-season the Wolves scored more than 20 points. In two weeks, Fayetteville will play Francis Marion in a non-region game.
Lincoln (2-1, 1-0) at Talladega (2-1, 2-0)
The Lincoln Golden Bears are coming off a victory against Leeds, handily defeating the Green Wave 28-7. In the Battle for the Talladega Superspeedway, one of these teams will stay in first place after tonights game, making it a pivotal contest for playoff positioning. Talladega beat Elmore County 44-20 last week. On offense, they are averaging 29 points per game, whereas they are only allowing 18.7 on the other side of the ball. The Golden Bears are scoring and allowing 29.3 points per game on both sides of the ball. Lincoln won last year’s meeting 17-7, but they trail in the all-time series 11-5.
